Minami Wrigley

Minami is a wonderful local artist we have represented for over five years and she has become our friend. She is VERY local, living on top of Queen Anne, so we frequently get to see her and her adorable dogs and her husband, Danny. I’m sure many people know and love them in our community.

Her art is meticulously detailed and the subject matter is taken from her many mountain hikes and travels. When people see her art on our walls, they frequently connect personally with them. They recognize that lake, waterfall, campsite, mountain or trail.

Her medium is mainly intaglio printing and watercolor, often mixing mediums. I often wonder how she finds time to create her mini masterpieces because they are very time consuming to make.

Intaglio is a general term for metal-plate printmaking techniques, including etching, drypoint, engraving, aquatint, and mezzotint. The word comes from the Italian intagliare, meaning “to incise” or “to carve.” In intaglio printing, the lines or areas that hold the ink are incised below the surface of the plate, and printing relies on the pressure of a press to force damp paper into these incised lines or areas, to pick up ink.

We were proud to have the opportunity to collaborate with her and the SAM gallery to frame her works for a show coinciding with the Hokusai exhibition last year.

We recently commissioned a piece to commemorate our new shop, and it’s perfect!

We love Minami and her art. We intend to continue representing her and we look forward to seeing whatever she brings us next!
